We traveled to Arenal Kioro during February 2022, during dry/high season in Costa Rica. Although February is a popular time to travel to La Fortuna, the hotel itself was not crowded. The hotel offered amazing views of the Arenal Volcano (some of the closest views among any La Fortuna hotel) and served as a truly tranquil and serene resort experience. The location was close to several attractions, and the on-site amenities made our stay at Arenal Kioro one of our favorite stays in Costa Rica.

Arenal Kioro is an ideal location when staying in La Fortuna. It is located at the base of the Arenal Volcano, so it is very easy to travel to common attractions, such as Mistico Park and Tabacon Hot Springs. It is also a short 10-minute drive to La Fortuna town if you are looking to venture to a local restaurant or souvenir shop.
During our time at Kioro, we stayed in the Couple's Suite, a luxurious and spacious 63 square meter suite. Upon our arrival, we were greeted with two welcome beverages at the reception area. The check-in was quite simple, and we were given a map of the property to help us navigate. The grounds were very well kept with a variety of flowers lining the walking paths to our individual accommodations. Each suite is housed within a larger building comprised of three other suites.
The room itself was quite stunning, with high vaulted ceilings and lighting which required room key activation. The suite featured a large king-sized bed, separate day bed, en-suite jacuzzi, separate toilet and shower rooms, TV, and full mini bar. The best feature of the room was certainly the large balcony with picturesque views of the Arenal Volcano.
The hotel's staff was also superbly accommodating. No matter what time of day we called to the reception desk, there was always someone available to help. Rooms were cleaned daily, and the cleaning staff even took the time to create towel origami for our beds. The attention to detail was five-star!
The staff at Arenal Kioro took necessary precautions to ensure that we had a COVID-free experience. At initial check-in, there were hand washing and sanitizer stations upon entry to the reception area. Mask wearing was also wide-spread in the hotel's common areas, including the restaurant, among staff and guests alike. Protective screens were also set-up at the initial reception area. The Arenal Kioro safety precautions truly set our minds at ease.
Every day, we took a short walk along the hotel's serene garden paths to get to the resort's primary restaurant, Heliconias. Our resort stay included daily complimentary breakfast, which was served buffet style at the Heliconias restaurant. Every morning, we were delighted by a selection of traditional Costa Rican breakfast dishes, including rice and beans, as well as more international breakfast dishes, such as omelettes and French toast. There was also an array of fresh fruit served daily, along with delicious orange and mango juices. The restaurant also offered stunning daytime views of the Arenal Volcano and natural lighting pouring from the multitude of windows.
Dinner was also a treat at Heliconias restaurant. We were impressed by the selection of entrees, including the Tomahawk steak-- a treat with amazing taste and flavor. This was served with a side of loaded baked-potato. We also enjoyed the dessert menu, especially the Nutella crepe served with a side of vanilla ice-cream. It was a delightful culinary experience, paired with an equally impressive red and white wine selection. Our experience at Heliconias left nothing to be desired.
Perhaps my favorite amenity of Arenal Kioro resort was the on-site hot springs. Along the same set of garden paths leading to the main resort restaurant, you can also find the Arenal Kioro hot springs. The springs consist of several thermal pools that vary in temperature and are located just steps from the resort's spa. Nothing is more relaxing than coming to your hotel's private hot springs after an actioned-packed day in La Fortuna. The ambiance is also extremely tropical, with lush foliage and flowers lining each thermal pool. If you're looking to try even more thermal pools, hotel guests at Arenal Kioro also have COMPLIMENTARY access to Titoku, an offsite hot springs facility with eight thermal pools and full bar.
I whole-heartedly recommend Arenal Kioro for your next stay in La Fortuna, Costa Rica. With its one-of-a-kind Volcano views, amazing amenities, and attentive staff, the resort offers a unique experience--one centered around self-healing, tranquility, and connectedness with the surrounding environment.
